National Trust Peak District National Park Website Twitter and Blogspot

The Peak District is an area of countryside which has some of the most beautiful countryside views in the world, and is located in the middle of some major northern cities and towns.

The Peak District is located in Derbyshire, which is located in the north of England, very close to Sheffield and near to Manchester, Derby and Chesterfield.  The Peak District is usually within an hours drive from the nearby cities and towns, but maintains a constant peace and tranquility.

The National Trust in the Peak District is managing the beautiful and dramatic landscape that you see today in the Peak District, and this takes an enormous amount of time, devotion and resource. Their dedicated team of staff and volunteers strive to maintain the fabric of this beautiful landscape by carrying out a variety of essential tasks which include rebuilding dry stone walls, installing new accessible stiles and gates and thinning the native woodlands that have been planted over the last century.

The Peak District covers a vast area of outstanding natural beauty, and the National Trust works hard to maintain this.  The visitors who enjoy walking in the Peak District also have a mutual respect for the glorious landscape, and you will find the local people are very friendly if you respect the beautiful landscape.

There are many things to do in the Peak District, walking, cycling and climbing being the most practiced outdoor pursuits in this area.

There are also plenty of activities that will help you to unwind and rest, and still so many places to visit and plenty of things to do too for those who don't want to totally relax.

In the Peak District village of Hathersage, there is an open air swimming pool which is open during the summer months, and this has got to be one of the finest outdoor swimming experiences ever, and great not just for kids but for all ages.  Its good if you can swim as its pretty deep.  The swimming pool is heated, and you get to see 360 degree countryside views while you swim.  I will post a review in April or May 2013, with the latest upto date information on parking, entrance fee's etc.

Below is a photo of the hills of Castleton in the summer months.  This is another photo that I would like to share with you all.  There are views like this and many more tucked away in vast rolling hills and valleys within the Peak District in Derbyshire, and we hope that you will visit this special part of the UK soon.

From Bradfield to Bakewell, from Buxton to Bamford, from Hope to Hathersage and beyond, if you appreciate the countryside in its natural splendor, if you love to discover new landscapes, if you love to breathe in clean air, and if you have never visited this part of the UK before, I advise strongly that you pay a visit to this part of the world as soon as possible.  You won't regret it :)

All that is asked of all visitors who visit the countryside for a picnic is to take any rubbish home with you, so you leave your surroundings as you found them, litter free and beautiful.

There are plenty of cosy pubs tucked away in various parts of the Peaks that are open in the Winter, serving the best traditional home cooked food, quality seasonal vegetables, and using the finest selection of local meat sources.  As fresh and fine as you can get.  Great for those Autumn and Winter walks.

In the summer, the glorious warm sunshine allows you to enjoy the best of the outdoors, with the choice of taking a picnic or grabbing a light pub lunch. Pretty streams and plenty of walks to discover, hills to climb, rock faces to climb and lots of open spaces with a variety of wildlife make this a perfect place to spend time with your family, loved ones and special friends.

You can visit the Peak District at any time of the year.  Most pubs in the Peaks serve food all year round that cannot be faulted, and you may be tempted to try something different :)

It is really easy to get to the Peak District by Car, Bus and Train.  You can also hire cycles too :)

Sheffield is based about 1 and 20 minutes from Manchester by Car.

You can travel from Sheffield to Manchester by car on the "Snake Pass" or "Woodhead Pass".

Both routes have stunning views, but please travel via the "Woodhead Pass" if possible if travelling to Sheffield from Manchester at night by Car.

The "Snake Pass" and its winding roads are a challenge at night for even the most confident drivers out there.

There are plenty of Pubs, Restaurants, Hotels and Cottages scattered amongst the hills of the Peaks to discover and wake up in.  And plenty of real open fires to discover too (some pubs have a real fireplace that works) and that adds to the genuine cosy atmosphere of the real thing.

I highly advise that you visit this beautiful part of the UK if you love to see stunning scenery.

Some Harry Potter scenes were filmed in the Peak District :)

The Peak District welcomes all visitors that respect the countryside and leaves the land how they found it.
